How SC Can Fight Global Warming

Governor Sanford wants our state to do more to fight global warming. He's setting up a commission to study the problem and come up with ideas. I'm not on the commission, but I have a couple of ideas.

First, create financial incentives for using nuclear energy. For example, subsidize nuclear power. Give tax breaks to electric vehicles that charge from nuclear power.

Second, add a "pollution tax" to polluting forms of energy, such as coal. Use the money collected from this tax to help clean up and protect South Carolina's environment.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that good intentions aren't enough; people think with their wallets. Make being environmentally responsible financially attractive, make polluting expensive, and I think we'll see progress.
